Consumption can mean a lot of things.  You can consume food, you can drink something, or you can let something consume you.  Many people are very nervous, stressed, or overwhelmed during this time of year because of everything going on with school and college.  I know for me, I am still very nervous and letting a lot of thoughts about school consume my thinking.  I have been thinking about negative thoughts about school and college, thoughts like “ i’m not going to get in here” or “ my grades stink, I will never get in.”

The idea of consumption that I wanted to focus on in my photo was the idea of negative thoughts consuming us during the stressful times of college and junior/senior year.  For my photo, I showed all of my thoughts and feelings about school/college.  My idea for my photo was to have someone with a balloon covering their face.  The balloon covering the face shows how all of the thoughts about college are consuming our thinking.I chose a balloon for my photo because it is easy to get rid of (pop) and it adds color to the picture.  I also chose a blue balloon because the blue represents sadness that is taking over our thoughts (stress about college).  The balloon symbolizes all of the negative thoughts.  I chose to use a diptych to show one, the balloon covering the face, and two, letting the balloon go.  The subject has an annoyed face in the second picture because she is tired of all of the negative thoughts.

I really want to show people how important it is to stay positive and to not let negative thoughts consume us during this time in our lives.  We just have to let them go.
